Lorelei used her mouse to post the final story on her blog, letting out a sigh. Then, she groaned as she leaned back in her chair, her limbs hanging over the back of her chair. “My god, it’s the last day of the year.” She turned her head and looked over at Quest, sitting in the armchair. “Posted your last story of 2016?”

“Yup. It’s up there right now. It’s a sequel to the first week actually.”

“Ooh, I’ll have a look at that later.” Lorelei sighed, before she leaned her cheek on the palm of her hand. “So what can we say about 2016…?”

“Britain leaves the EU, Trump becomes president, a gorilla was shot dead, so many celebrities passed away…” Quest sighed, frowning down at her laptop. “This year has been a mess.”

“Come now,” Lorelei said, smiling at her sheepishly. “There have been some good things about 2016, even if they were, ahem, overshadowed by other things…”

“Hmm…That’s true.” Quest looked thoughtful. “The population of the tigers has increased, Sri Lanka is now malaria-free…”

“Andy Murray won Wimbledon and became world number one, there’s now peace in Columbia after 50 years…And you gotta admit, the Rio Olympics was pretty amazing.”

“Yeah, yeah, I admit it.” Quest finally said, waving a hand dismissively at Lorelei, who chuckled. “Okay, maybe 2016 wasn’t such a crappy year.”

Lorelei smiled at Quest. “And let’s be honest here, you going to university is probably one milestone in your life.”

“That’s true.” Quest smiled back at Lorelei. “Next year, it will be your turn!”

“Ehehehe, let’s hope so.” Lorelei said, nervously rubbing the back of her neck. “But one thing most of all, we’ve both really developed this year as writers. And I think that is one of the most important things that has happened to us so far. And we’ll continue to develop further, until we become some of the best writers in the community.”

“Yeah.” Quest agreed, grinning at Lorelei. “So let’s become even better people in 2017, okay?”

“Okay!”

“…But let’s be honest, 2016 was pretty rubbish in terms of politics.”

“…Yeah, you’re right.”

They both laughed.
